HOW TO RESIZE YOUR PLANNER PRINTABLES

I’ve been doing printables for quite some time and I know this is a common question people have…Can I resize my planner printables? How do I do it? So I started playing around with Adobe Reader’s settings and found that literally ANYONE can resize their planner printables… SUPER quick and easy!

All you need is:
  1. Your desired planner size
  2. Adobe Reader DC (get it free here)
  3. Correct planner paper
  4. Calculator (optional)
  5. Paper cutter (optional)
There are 3 different ways you can resize your planner printables. I will go over each method with images (for all my visual learners out there, like me!)

First, you’ll need to know what planner size you want your planner printables to be. Here are a few common sizes (width x height shown):
A3 (11.75 inches x 16.5 inches)
A4 (8.3 inches x 11.7 inches)
A5 (5.83 inches x 8.26 inches)
A6 (4.125 inches x 5.875 inches)
B5 (6.93 inches x 9.85 inches)
B6 (4.9 inches x 6.9 inches)
Personal (3.75 inches x 6.75 inches)
Pocket (3.25 inches x 4.75 inches)
Half Letter (5.5 inches x 8.5 inches)
US Letter (8.5 inches x 11 inches)
*Bold sizes automatically are options to resize in Adobe. No worries I will go over how to add additional sizes and how these methods can be done with ANY size

Next, make sure you have Adobe Reader DC (free version) install on your computer. These methods also work if you have Adobe Acrobat Pro DC (paid version).

Now, you’ll want the correct planner paper. THIS is the planner paper I recommend. You’ll also want to be sure you have the correct paper size, which I’ll go more into detail about in this post.

Lastly, you may want to use a calculator (I do provide a cheat sheet below) and a paper cutter for method 3 & 4. Theses items are optional.

1| Use Non-Standard Paper Size

Standard size paper is US Letter size (8.5” x 11” for most planners), so this is where having the correct size paper comes in handy.
How to resize planner printables using non-standard size paper:
  1. Click on “PrintORFile” then “PrintOR press Command/Ctrl + P
  2. Make sure your preferred printer is selected
  3. Click “Page Setup…” (located on the lower left-hand corner)
  4. Click on the Size dropdown and select your preferred planner size Note: If you do not see your desired planner size as an option go back to the printer selection and change it to Adobe PDF, click “Properties”, then click “Add…” next to Adobe PDF Page Size and enter your desired planner size and name, click “Add/Modify”, then click “OK” and this will add your desired planner size to the dropdown options. Be sure to go back and change your printer back to your preferred printer BEFORE changing other settings, then repeat step 4 again by going to the dropdown box and you will see the size you just added.
  5. Click “OK
  6. Double check that Actual Size OR Custom Scale: 100% is selected
  7. Load your printer with the correct paper size
  8. Click “Print”.

2| Use Standard Size Paper, Select Custom Size, and Cut Excess Paper Off

This is my preferred method because it doesn’t require you to purchase additional paper, but for certain sizes (i.e. A3) that are wider or taller than 8.5”x11” option 1 may be best.
How to resize planner printables using standard size paper:
  1. Click on “PrintORFile” then “PrintOR press Command/Ctrl + P
  2. Make sure your preferred printer is selected
  3. Click “Page Setup…” (located on the lower left-hand corner)
  4. Click on the Size dropdown and select your preferred planner size OR click “Manage Custom Sizes” Note: If you do not see Manage Custom Sizes as an option go back to the printer selection and change it to Adobe PDF, click “Properties”, then click “Add…” next to Adobe PDF Page Size and enter your desired planner size and name, click “Add/Modify”, then click “OK” and this will add your desired planner size to the dropdown options. Be sure to go back and change your printer back to your preferred printer BEFORE changing other settings, then repeat step 4 again by going to the dropdown box and you will see the size you just added.
  5. Double check that Non-Printable Area” is zero for all sides (if applicable).
  6. Click “OK”
  7. Double check that Actual Size OR Custom Scale: 100% is selected
  8. Load your printer with the correct paper size
  9. Click “Print
  10. Cut all excess paper off your planner printables. Note: I recommend THIS paper and THIS paper cutter.

3| Use Standard Size Paper, Select a Percentage, and Cut Excess Paper Off

This is another great option as it allows you to set a percentage to get your planner printables the correct size each time. This method also requires a small amount of calculations, BUT no worries! I listed a few resizing percentage sizes AND a formula cheat sheet so you can do it too!
  1. Click on “PrintORFile” then “PrintOR press Command/Ctrl + P
  2. Make sure your preferred printer is selected
  3. Under Page Sizing & Handling enter the needed percentage for Custom Scale Note: Percentage cheat sheet below!
  4. Click “Print
  5. Cut all excess paper off your planner printables. Note: I recommend THIS paper cutter.

Formula & Cheat Sheet:
Formula: Planner Width divided by 8.5, then multiple by 100. This gives you the percentage you’ll need to enter into step 3.

For example, if you want your planner size to be 8 inches (width) x 9.5 inches (height), then you’ll enter 94.12% (or 94%, it’s totally fine to round slightly).
How’d I get this? 8 inches (desired planner width) divided by 8.5 times 100 = 94.12%
